Weather windy and moderate throughout period. Cows moved into SBW2. Daily splits and fed 8 to 10 bales daily along with ad lib biuret supplement and 4 bales alfalfa every 4 days. 1.13 was a ‘tsunami’ wind all day. Lost power for 24 hours. Probably the strongest wind we have experienced on the ranch. One calf was injured and likely the result of the wind event. A fire was triggered east of us and north of Delphia, which Ryan helped contain. Hard to explain yet the wind actually put it out.
Cows trailed to corrals and back poured. Calves are getting new splits every 3 to 4 days while on full feed + some straw.
I can hear the wind before I even leave the house. Wind didn’t let up all day. I moved cows to the 7th and last split in NBW8. 382 x 1.1 = 420 AUs x 7 days =2941 ads / 200ac = 14.7 ads/acre for the unit.
Gusty winds return and some light showers in the morning. Cows move to 6th split in afternoon. I built next split for calves in WG3. Despite the wind there is still ok moisture in soil based on mesonet reading.
Clear, cool, breezy and dry. Cows moved to 5th split in NBW8 in afternoon. Pretty relaxed day. Five horned larks flushed while moving cows. Birds are a bit scarce this winter.
