A warm 80* temperature coupled with good soil moisture triggers fall singing meadowlarks and field crickets. Cows in front split SBW4. Bulls are splitting off and heading out on their own, I will need to find a ‘gathering paddock’.
Warming trend. Cows break out into SBW4 after fighting bulls bust temporary wire at cell center.
Crisp and clear. I trailed cows from EL to SBW6 Will l.
Made it to Denver. One more RMG call in transit. Opened up EL paddocks 5a, 6, and 7 for cows as three-day rain arrives while Dana and I attend the RM CNB meeting. Close to an inch of moisture fell while we were gone.
Cool and misty and now wind. I moved cows into 2nd split on EL7. I stripped off the south end with sagebrush. Dana and I left late afternoon for the first leg to CNB meeting in Denver.
Cool wet weather moving in-a real equinox storm. Cows moved into 1st split in EL7 taking in part of the reseeded pasture cocktail. I called Dusty Crowe at BLM about grazing more of the reseeded pasture. Dusty shared he will be moving to Dillon. His replacement will be the 5th BLM field staff.
Just summer like. Cows moved into last strip in EL6.
Strong warm gusty winds, calming by evening. Cows broke out to the west, but quickly trailed back into 4th and last split in 5a. I am putting a little more pressure on the grass. I may return in April to put pressure on annuals. With fall rains, another repeat year with active germination of annuals, like bromes, alyssum, and filago.
Warm, cloudy, and breezy. Cows moved into 3rd split on EL5a. Meadowlarks are singing more again as we approach fall equinox.
