Weather: Much warmer and dry.
Where: Cows (275 + 8 yearlings) WG-12; bulls (22) in WG-1 to LW-1; dries (22) in LS-15; yearlings (149) in L-2). Cow mob with patience all find WG-12. I split them later in the afternoon as most were close to water. Nice regrowth in LS-13 including a nice bunch of hoppers present that are now flying.

We plan to have all the pairs over by tomorrow morning. A family of Upland Sandpipers hover over as we are moving. Wade brought bulls over early morning to corrals to avoid any mix up as cow mob head into the WG cell. Weather: Partly cloudy and sunny and warmer. Forecasting dry days over the 4th.

Yearlings move to 5th split. Tyler and I spent middle of day in Roundup helping canvas SIPs posters around town. Native Plant Tour in the afternoon with about 12 folks. Explored sandstone outcrops in BW-6 and 7 just NE of headquarters where Anemone multifidi hugs the north sides of the rock outcrops. Recorded over 70 species and observed a large patch of Echinacea in early stage of bloom. Ran into Plains and Woodhouse toads. Finished off the tour with Ryan sharing a live hognose snake he found on the county road. Not a bad day. Weather: Pleasant with heavy showers all around us.

Allow cows into a small 5 acres split in LS-1 to knock down heavy feed that could be fire hazard later in the year. Hereford bulls escapes again and breeds two cows before being captured. Weather: Cool and cloudy with light evening thunder showers.

Where: Cow mob in LS-11; Bulls in WG-1; yearlings in L-2; Dry cows (22) in LS-15. Tyler, Dunbar (apprentice), Wade, and I trail pairs in from LS-11 to corrals with no mishaps. Not to be prideful, but I think this is the first year we got all the cows and calves into the corrals without a single calf breaking back. Yuccas in full bloom with usually occurs every year around branding time. Branding went very smoothly will competent and cheerful crew. Great meal provided to all by Dana. Much gratitude for a big day for the ranch. A new season will begin when bulls go into cows and yearlings the end of July Weather: Clouds build all day and evening brings heavy showers all night.

Where: Cow mob in LS-11-12; Bulls in WG-1; yearlings in L-2. Finish moving cows across road into LS-11 at dawn. Calm with no calves going back. I then head to Jordan. Weather: Cool and cloudy with a light shower in the evening…hmm sounds repetitive.
Where: Cow mob in LS-15. Bulls (have been) in WG-1. Cows move into LS-12 on their way to LS-11. Soft move across County Road. Hope to complete the move first thing tomorrow before I leave for CMR meeting in Jordan. Robins start singing at 4:15. |
