Pretty warm. Pierce arrives from Connecticut. Andrea Pipp, staff botanists with the Montana Natural Heritage Program, arrives to lead with BLM employees, a wetland plant inventory of the ranch.
I joined Open Circle Sangha for Sunday sit followed by service and offering a dharma talk for sangha members.
On the road on the Blackfoot Valley to help facilitate succession planning for the Helmville based Mannix Ranch family.
Nothing special except that the ranch is still green and water continues to flow into the big reservoir.
Rain showers both days. Cows float back into alfalfa in WL8 but I get them turned around back to EL5. Birds flocking up as more fledglings are taking to the air. Watch for baby toads (see picture). Baby toads are moving all over, and one can only do their best to avoid them while driving on the ranch roads. While checking cows this evening over 50 nighthawks were observed feeding together.
Just nice weather. Cows move into first 2 splits in EL5. First bull platoon (5) joins the cowherd.
Light cooling shower last night. Temps were in the 80’s today and very pleasant. I prepped move for tomorrow. Birds are so quiet.
Updated numbers: 393 cows (3 dries and 1 at house with lamb calf); 382 calves (207 S and 175 H); 17 bulls. Cooler and partly cloudy. Morning move to WL8. Counted 400 cows through gate-not a good count-will repeat soon.
Cooler. Morning move into WL6 to graze off alfalfa regrowth.
