Windy and warmer. Happy Equinox! Offer Zen service in Helena. I returned to Bozeman. All livestock groups stayed put.
Waking to15 degrees. My goodness! Later SW winds returned the day to more normal temperatures. I went to move cows to next split on SG5 and discovered a leaky air vent. I opened to cows to G6 to get to more reliable water. Left for Bozeman to welcome Jack, Morgan and Jessica’s recent addition to the family.
Stinging colder NE winds. Treated 2’s (46 + 2 dries) and trailed back to NG4. Josh Strogh delivered mineral and we then checked out all the age groups. We both agreed all groups are in acceptable condition for this time of year and stage of gestation for cows.
More cold and wind with scattered empty flurries. Trailed cows back to ridge (SG5) and brought 2’s part way back to corrals. Read at Central School and returned to bring 2’s to corrals. First crane calls coming from reservoir. A few phlox are flowering and musineon not far behind.Trailing on a chilly Thursday.
Cool and breezy today. Moved cows close (SNG6) to corral to re-treat for lice tomorrow. One ferruginous hawk perched on large cottonwood supported nest in SG6. First kestrel this spring spotted just a mile or so south of nest.
Light rain early this morning and then clearing. Ryan and Snick checked all pumps-pressure back up, still not sure actual cause. Conference call for ranch control meeting held with Moria, Roland, Dana, and Max. First sighting of returning Red-tail hawk.
Cooler and overcast. Ryan spends most of day tracking down water line pressure problems with no success. Vidic (ranch water vendor) will come tomorrow. Despite water concerns moved cows into east half of SG6. FIRST MEADOWLARKS-NOW SPRING.
More warm and mild. Moved bulls out of NNG1 into NBW16. Moved calves into NNG1 to clean up feed and test new fence design using temporary fence. Held off moving cows because of water problems-possible leak and maybe well problems at Ryan’s. Red-winged blackbirds grown in number to 40.
