Hard frost but clear and warming. Cows spent day in County road paddock NBW14 after yesterday’s trail. We will feed into NBW9 and a fresh paddock tomorrow. Natalie and I moved 2’s/3’s into SBW2 for some targeted straw impact. We hope to split the 2’s off soon for calving. Also, moved calves to next split. Red wing blackbirds arrive.

Storm lifting and Happy Anniversary to Dana and me. We trailed cows out of WG to corrals to cut off 10 suckers, and then continued on to NBW to get back into rotation. Young cows and calves stay put.
Cold and light snow all day. Moved calves and 2’s/3’s to new splits. Cows stay on straw in WG5. Cow feed day. FIRST MEADOWLARK!
Continued cold with light snow. Natalie and I move both calves and young cows. Cows still working on old straw.
Cold with off and on scattering snow. Natalie, our new apprentice arrives.
Cold and clear with warming later in the day. No moves and a cow feed day. Larger groups of horned larks gathering, while mostly absent or unseen during the winter.
Cold with continuing snow off and on all day. I trailed 23 cows, missed and left behind on the 13th, back to main herd in WG5.
Snow and cold N winds all day. No change in feeding schedule.
Cold and some snow move into all of Montana. Young cows and calves stay put. I trailed cows from Big Wall to WG5 to work over piles of old straw during the weather event. The 13th was an early feed day for cows to avoid feeding during the heart of the storm predicted for tomorrow.
No major weather events. I was in Colorado for this period visiting Merino feedlot where 2019 crop is close to being finished. Also traveled to Pueblo area, to see back grounded calves at Uratani’s. Young cows (152) and calves (444) saw no moves-mostly on full feed with straw. Cows (399) moved to first split in NBW9 on 3.11.
