Clear and brisk. SPRING EQUINOX. Also, our anniversary. Moved cows to next split heading south up to ridge water in SG6. Moved 2’s/3’s to first split in NG5. I am still waiting for the first meadowlark. Dana heard a meadowlark today.

Tried to rain but didn’t. Cow feed day for both groups. Moved cows to next split in NG1.
Continued mild. Cows move to next split. Paul shows up to visit Natalie and Eric.
Cool yet turning nice, and unseasonably warm. Trailed 3’s home to lice treat with 2’s, and then trailed back combined group (173) to NG4. Alfalfa feed day for both cow groups. Natalie’s father Eric arrives to visit.
Warming again. Moved cows to next split. Natalie and I worked on next planned fence on the ridge in SG. Todd brought remainder of hay (30 tons) over to hay yard.
Overcast and cooler. Calves were a bit of a pill tearing out some fence and escaping. Despite some useless anger, Natalie and I got things back in place and fences hot. Ryan was collecting the generator at the Todd’s to return to Billings. Natalie and I then moved to cows to a thirty plus acre split in NG1. The paddock lines in this area will be very different after Natalie re-configures changes on the ranch map. Natalie rolled up rest of temporary wire at Todd’s. I finished the day off setting my first post of the season for a new fence line. Easy digging and satisfying straight forward work.
Cooler with surprising SE winds stronger in the afternoon. A few shrinking snowdrifts still remaining on north slopes. 2’s stay in the corral (2 bales). Cows and 3’s have hay day. I moved cows in morning to next split in NG1. I also trailed 2 bulls that have been hanging around headquarters over the hill with other bulls (10).
Blue all day. Hard frost in the morning turning very warm in the afternoon. I moved cows to next split in NG1. Tuned up fence with calves to keep in WG1 and out of surface water in WG7. Nice crew trails 2’s home from Todd Andersons.
Another remarkably mild and windless day. We would welcome a storm any time. A big storm is moving through the middle of the country including Wyoming where our yearlings will be heading the first week of April. Cows move to next split in NG1. More red-wing blackbirds birds arrive at the headquarters.
