Cows move to new 40-acre split (2 days) late afternoon. Also, alfalfa day for cows. Fair amount of three-awn in L-10. Heifer alfalfa day and still set stalked in EG-5. Calves on second day of a two-day split. First Kestrel and bluebirds. Some juncos in the yard. A little more song from the meadowlarks. Coming snow and cold will arrest this early spring-up.

Weather: More cooling over the course of the day.

One calf split (31 acres for two days). Calf hay day. Ryan had Scott Goffena clean out calving shed with a bobcat. More cost effective than owning your own bobcat, at least for us. Weather: Slight cooling trend.

Shawn our new road construction contractor smoothed and graveled the road crossing in the wet draw heading to the reservoir from the west. Nice improvement with a critical crossing yet more gravel needed. More ducks at reservoir joined by two beautiful swans. Possibly Trumpeter swans. Weather: Very warm. Grass growing weather

Heifers good and calves get one alfalfa bale. Everything went very smooth in our absence. Nice mix if ducks at reservoir: canvasback; pintails; and goldeneyes. Calves move to new and last split (20 acres) on LS-4. Tyler is doing nice job with splits and with good impact and laying litter down on the soil surface. Dana and I return after midnight from 8 lovely days north of SF in Point Reyes National Seashore celebrating with warmth and gusto our heralded 50th. 20 ads for the paddock period Weather: Clear and mild. Heifers got one bale. Calves got 16 acres. Max caused a ruckus this morning chasing calves through the barb wire about a mile into whackers property. He wouldn’t listen to me so I just had wait for him to stop and walk back to the truck. It took me all morning gathering the calves back in through the barb fence where they broke it. Sage saved the day as max just won’t listen or do anything.” TL Weather: Continued mild spring conditions

They were just hanging out by 10 am. Calves got 13.39 acre split and two bales of alfalfa and 1 bale of straw.
