Heat continues but nights stay cool. Moved cows to NBW7.

Cool with scattered showers, then turning hot. Cows moved into NBW8 for 3 days. Dana and I with Barb and Ed have front row seats watching James Taylor in Bozeman.
Sporadic thunder-showers blew through with no measurable moisture. Cows moved into WL3. I worked on fence on NBW8 getting ready for the next move. Three white pelicans visited the reservoir. All these post storm days are so fresh and clear with grass leaves upright, full, and green. Please check out photos of the afternoon. The plant is Asclepias viridiflora . Notice drying Tradescantia occidentalis (plains spiderwort) in the background. I can’t believe I missed seeing this year’s flowering of spiderwort.
Clear, breezy and nice. Cows broke out east into EL6 and 8. Ryan and I had everyone gathered by late morning and placed cows into WL2. I spent most of day with Shakespeare in the Park duties. All went well and weather was unusually perfect.
More rain. Totals add up to 1.41 for the storm’s duration. Moved cows into WL7 and 8.
Rained during the night and persisted until early afternoon 1.10 inches of moisture. The ranch has received over twice the amount of moisture in the first 10 days of July, than it received in the full month of June. Oriole fledglings are two-thirds the size of their parents. Chad Sealey’s family fished at reservoir and caught a 2 pound bass. So, I guess there are fish.
Cooler. Moved pairs into WL6. It was a beautiful evening drive home from checking the cows (see photos). Large flock of nighthawks mixed with ducks and a lone heron crisscrossing dusky light.
Dana leaves for Polson. I moved the cows into 2nd split in WL5. Thunderstorms built up by early evening. Lightning ignited 4 fires to the west and north. The closest fire was on Gary Wackers about 1 mile from Big Wall. The wind turned gusty pushing the fire closer toward us, but a blessed quick shower slowed things enough for the fire crews to get the flames corralled and eventually stopped.
