Over .6 of moisture last night. I held a solo morning full moon ceremony service. Cows are in NBW4 grazing hard the bottoms with sow thistle and Canadian thistle. Adults and fully fledged young out together for evening feeding-yellow-rumped warblers, mountain bluebirds, chipping sparrows, and nighthawks. Coyotes singing, nighthawks diving, bats begin feeding, as night falls with the breaking of a deep almost full orange waning moon.

Over 1 inch of moisture while gone from ranch counting the .6 below.
More than warm but not too hot. Country is turning cured. Late August or September rains will be needed and welcome. Raptors on Big Wall: Red tail hassling bald eagle while kestrals acrobat nearby. A lone heron, steady and unperturbed floats gracefully below the fray.
Nice temperatures all day. Moved last 3 bulls to the cows. In the afternoon opened up NBW12 along the creek. The deeply cut creek is a favorite place for the Maximillian sunflower, Helianthus maximiliani.
Overcast and still all morning. Turns warm and a strong evening thunderstorm blows in about 9:00. Thankfully enough rain fell to avert any fires igniting.
More heat and wind. Cows moved into NBW11. Cricket season. Check out (see photo) our resident porch Woodhouse Toad
Heat returns. No changes. I made decision to commit to winter practice period at Tassajara- now to prepare.
Cold front brings strong gusty winds and cooler temperatures. Cows nestled nicely north of creek (see photo). Curlews are gone and prairie dogs moving farther west into our pasture out of large Goffena colony.
Turned back very hot. Moved cows out of the creek bottom in NBW9 into NBW10. Young coyote followed us out calling all the while and listening to the barks echo off the wall. Three herons rise and coast over the wall.
The Montana Raptor Center is taking advantage of Dana's once a week trips to Bozeman. This week she transported an injured Bald Eagle from the Winnett area. So now Monday's include bread, birds, babies and Bozeman.
