Weather: Nice cool morning but intensifies over the day.
Where: Cows in WG-5; Yearlings in LS-16. Three sale bulls remain in corral. Daily splits for both groups. Bulls break out of the corrals. Hereford bull leaves cows and ends up with heifers. We walked that bull back to corrals. The other three still out. All going to town next week. Christian and Chris arrive at ranch for brief stay.

Weather: Some morning wind and cooler, then heating back up by afternoon.
Where: Cows in WG-5; Yearlings in LS-16. Three sale bulls remain in corral. One split for cows and heifers stay put. I lock in supplement hay for calves with Paul Mckenna. Ryan and Tyler lately full-time mechanics. Five hours on the phone working on grassland related projects. The mysterious abundance of leopard frogs and black wasps sucking up mud in our “headquarters pond biome”. Weather: Very hot, calm, and quiet.
Where: Cows in WG-5; Yearlings in LS-16. One split for each group. Protein supplement consumption for cows has spiked. Dust brings on the steady song of crickets and the ever-entertaining flight of bats and nighthawks. Weather: Warming. Hot predicted for most of week.
Where: Cows in WG-5; Yearlings in LS-16. Two splits for cows and no split for heifers. Wade and Ryan pulled out the 8 bulls in heifers and trailed to cows in WG-5. Dana and I saw two small groups of sage grouse around 4 corners driving home from a community meeting. Weather: Breezy and pleasant.

Where: Cows in WG-5; Yearlings in LS-16. Cows broke out during the storm, but everything was collected and placed in the first split for WG-6. No moves for yearlings. Weather: Heated up today

Two bulls held back due to DNA alignment with DNA samples of dead calves. House pond home to multiples of Leopard Frogs. Weather: Nice weather continue-almost fall like.

Monday WOTB meeting went well-so many tasks. A family of acrobatic kestrels observed on way to Lackey’s. Weather: Continued modest temperatures with overcast and some light showers.

Still not sure of my plan for the yearlings other than offering high plant selection in the riparian area as they are on the backside of the breeding period. |
