Weather: Hot days balanced with thankfully reasonably cool nights.
L (11): Actually, pulled off three splits today on some rough ground. Enjoying the prairie falcon on our drive to east Lackey and back.

Weather: More of the same. Just steadily leaning into the heat wave.
L (12-10): Cows move into L-12 with two splits adding up to about 50 acres. Cows from the most part holding their body condition. Calves ok but daily gains likely low with the ongoing hot weather. Weather: Heat and smokey haze meet to remind how few days like this we have had this year.
L (13): Last and 6th split in L-13. Good harvest and fairly inform pressure over the entire paddock. Despite a mile to water, cows moving calmly to and from the water back to the feed at the far end of the paddock. Weather: Heat bubble settles over Milton Ranch and the whole west. Yikes. Fortunately, we are getting reasonable cooling during the night.
L (13): Carlyle and I attend Montana Range tour up at Sieben and Great falls over the 30th and 31st. Excellent gathering. Four splits over the 5 days. Very pleased with the cover, particularly in places with very robust and greening green needlegrass. Splits are being made over broken country yet, we keep up with our the mostly daily moves. |
