Clear blue and cold. No moves and straw to the 3’s. WINTER SOLSTICE. Cut the family Christmas tree with my grandson, Pierce.

New snow, colder with strong N and NE winds. I fed the cows 4 bales near water. 3’s hang tight to windbreak then head out in evening to graze using their formation (roughly lined up north to south) to afford the most wind protection. I visited with Cooper Hibbard about helping select and start a working dog-this direction could be a good plan to replace aging Pax.
New snow maybe 4”, calm winds, very pleasant. I trailed 3’s to paddock NG4. Young cows are calming down. Ranch received 40 ton of new 2nd cutting hay (52 bales at 1550#/bale) from Dale FlikKema in Bozeman. Excellent quality. Main cow group breaks into NBW 12 (creek bottom west of road). I decided to leave them there due to upcoming storm.
More winds but warmer. Cold weather predicted for later in the week. Cows stay put. Hopefully can trail 3’s east to NG4 tomorrow. It was a long, yet productive day working with Winnett ACES.
Gusty biting winds all day. All groups stayed put. Christmas Bird Count was today, but winds led to a low count with both species and numbers. Bulls are still barely getting by with water. When 3’s move to winter facility, water volume will improve.
Breezy and cooler. Prepared NG4 for 3’s. I pushed 0180 bull into 3’s on NSG6. Cows received their every fourth day feed of 4 bales. Rough-legged hawks are never far from view.
Windy and mild. Cows moved into NBW 14 on west tank.
Windy and mild. Finally found (we think) leak impacting winter tank at Big Wall.
Cooler. Calves shipped to Wyoming. 173 steer calves and 164 heifer calves. Getting too slow at brand inspecting. Jake Returning 3’s are settling in. Calves out of NNG3-pretty heavy use due to delayed shipment of calves.
Received 3’s from Wyoming (139) and placed in SNG6.
